journalism & writing
During my four years at Nebraska Wesleyan, I participated in the University’s small-scale student newspaper, writing a handful of articles covering both news and editorial content around campus, in addition to occasionally providing photos for the publication. My first semester of Freshman year included several courses where writing and campus involvement came together. My first “writing project” that formalized my involvement in the newspaper came in the fall of 2016, when writing for the introductory journalism course I was taking. From there, I took several classes with Wesleyan’s journalism professor throughout the remainder of my time at the university, and also submitted stories I was writing outside of journalism courses when time permitted.
The Nebraska Wesleyan student newspaper — renamed “The Yip” right before I started college — did not have a website or online news-delivery solution set up during my time at the university, so I’ll showcase a few key stories and images of mine that were published in the physical papers over the years.

Here are a few key highlights of my writing for the Nebraska Wesleyan student newspaper between 2016 and 2019.

feature article: “The state of old main”
February 2019.
I felt inspired by NWU’s oldest building, “Old Main”, the entire time I attended school there. It felt important to channel that inspiration into a formal feature article before I graduated.
feature article: jean bolton
March 2019
Jean Bolton is not only one of the oldest living NWU graduates, but the last living connection to her Aunt, former Wesleyan English professor and author Phoebe Hopper. Hopper’s memoir, which documented early prairie life from a woman’s perspective, was denied for publication in the early and mid-20th century despite multiple attempts by both Hopper herself and later by Bolton, who painstakingly transcribed the handwritten document into typewriting. Today, a coalition of NWU professors are re-submitting Hopper’s memoir for publication with hopes that a new perspective of Nebraska history can be shared. As they communicated with Bolton to retrieve the memoir, they discovered she had quite the stories to tell herself, and elicited the help of a journalism student to put some of her story into writing.
campus news: 2017 eclipse
August 2017
Feature articles may be my personal favorite, but I did my duty to report general campus news and happenings as well. Here’s my short & sweet news article for the Fall ’17 issue of The Yip covering campus events surrounding the 2017 Eclipse.
feature article: dogs of nwu
September 2016
Producing real case study content for Infogressive’s marketing was a big future goal during my first year with the company that became a reality as we matured as an organization. I was able to complete three Infogressive case studies prior to the merger and had around 3-5 additional case studies in progress that were not able to be released as Infogressive content. Here’s one example:

This pretty stuff is great and all, but where’s the resume?
Right here! Saved the business for last, that’s all.
